Temporary (“Temp”) or Contract Employee

A recent trend among businesses is leasing or contracting employees from another party. These include “temporary” or “temp” workers and they work for a longer amount of time than in the past. These workers are considered employees under the law and their employers, either the contracted employer or the “temp” agency, are required to obey overtime and minimum wage laws.  But these employees can be exempt under the law. Make sure you check with an attorney to see if overtime pay is required for the type of work you are doing.

For detail about employer abuses, see Temporary ("Temps") and Contract Employees at OvertimeScams.us.
